Dr. Darla Jones

I bring a wide range of experience to the college search and application process. As the cost of a college education continues to rise and the realities of the workforce continue to shift, it’s more important than ever that students consider their options carefully and find the best possible path moving forward after high school.

As a student,

I understand what it takes to succeed in competitive academic environments. I graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a B.A. in English & American Literature. I later earned a Masters in Instructional Technology from Johns Hopkins University followed by a doctorate in Educational Leadership from The University of Oregon. Most recently, I completed an Independent Educational Consultant certificate program through the University of California at Irvine.

As an educator,

I have spent over 25 years advocating for students. I served the majority of my career in the Anchorage School District, one of the largest and most diverse school districts in the nation. I served in a wide variety of roles, including English teacher, helping students learn to become better writers and communicators; Technology Coordinator, helping teachers and students reinvent learning experiences; and as an Administrator, collaborating with principals, teachers, parents, community members, universities, and non-profits to maximize opportunities for each and every student. I am now a Professional Member of IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association).

As a volunteer,

I believe in giving back to one’s community. I have served as a Brown University Alumni Interviewer and talked with many incredible young people pursuing their dreams. I am also strongly committed to serving students from all backgrounds and provide pro bono counseling services to students with financial need each year.

As a parent,

I relate to the challenge of raising kids and preparing them to transition into adulthood, especially when dealing with learning differences that further complicate this transition. I understand the anxiety that accompanies the approach to senior year and the need to balance a multitude of priorities. I also realize there are many organizations demanding your money just as you’re most stressed about funding college. If you do decide to hire any consulting firm, please be sure to check the background and credentials of those who will partner with your family during this critical time.
