Language Learning at Home

Language Learning at Home

Language learning at home one great way for students to pass the time at home. Here are a few free or low-cost options that I’m currently recommending. For younger students, the Austin-based company FabuLingua is now providing its interactive Spanish service for free during this crisis. Duolingo is another great resource offering entertaining lessons for a wide variety of languages. For students (ages 13-18) who want to practice speaking Spanish, French, German, Italian, or Mandarin, LanguageBird is offering free chirp rooms moderated by experienced language instructors. Babbel is another terrific resource that is reasonably priced and utilizes speech recognition technology to deliver conversational lessons in short chunks of time. Finally, one of the most interesting language learning methods I’ve learned about recently is offered by LingQ. After a free trial period, the program is delivered through a subscription model and allows the user to learn a variety of languages by accessing authentic and immersive content such as books, podcasts, news sites, and even Netflix.
